Solution:
$a^{2}-b^{2}-a-b$
$=(a+b)(a-b)-1(a+b) \quad\left[a^{2}-b^{2}=(a+b)(a-b)\right]$
$=(a+b)[(a-b)-1]$
$=(a+b)(a-b-1)$
