Solution:
$a$ is the G.M. between 2 and $\frac{1}{4}$.
$\therefore a^{2}=2 \times \frac{1}{4}$
$\Rightarrow a^{2}=\frac{1}{2}$
$\Rightarrow a=\sqrt{\frac{1}{2}}$
$\Rightarrow a=\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}$
