Question:

The volume of a cube is 512 cm3. Find its surface area.

Solution:

Suppose that the side of the given cube is x cm.
Volume of the cube = 512 cm3

Then $512=x^{3}$

$\Rightarrow x=\sqrt[3]{512}=8$

i. e., the side of the cube is $8 \mathrm{~cm}$.

$\therefore$ Surface area of the cube $=6 x^{2} \mathrm{~cm}^{2}=6 \times 8^{2} \mathrm{~cm}^{2}=384 \mathrm{~cm}^{2}$
