JEE Advanced 2018 Counselling Process and Seat Allocation by JoSAA

JEE is an engineering entrance exam held at national level in India every year. It is further divided into two phases – JEE Main and the JEE Advanced. The second phase of the exam i.e. JEE Advanced, if qualified ensures admissions to the one of the 23 IITs including ISM-Dhanbad depending on the scores secured.

JEE Advanced 2018 Counselling Process will commence from the month of June 2018. It consists of a total seven rounds and the whole Process is conducted through online mode. The candidates who will qualify in JEE Advanced 2018 Exam will be eligible to take part in the JEE Advanced 2018 Counselling Process and further seat allocation procedure. JEE Advanced 2018 Counselling – Eligibility Criteria

A certain set of eligibility criteria has been set by the JoSAA for the candidates to participate in the JEE Advanced 2018 Counselling Process. The candidate should have secured the minimum cut-off announced by the IITs and must have a position in the rank list released.

Candidates need to secure minimum prescribed marks in each subject and in aggregate to appear in the JEE Advanced 2018 Merit list. JEE Advanced 2018 Counselling – Tentative Schedule

JEE Advanced 2018 Counselling is an online process. The following table consists of all the important events and their tentative dates related to the seven rounds of JEE Advanced 2018 Counselling Process.

JEE Advanced 2018 Counselling – Complete Process

The JEE Advanced 2018 Counselling Process comprises of the following 5 major steps. The JEE Advanced 2018 Counselling Schedule will be completed in 3 rounds. The candidates are advised to check their status after each round of counselling.

  1. Registration for JEE Advanced 2018 Counselling
  2. Candidates need to fill choices online and lock them
  3. Allotment of seats
  4. Reporting to Allotted colleges
  5. Granting Provisional Admission for to candidates

 

Step 1 – Online Registration

Firstly, candidates have to register online to participate in the counselling process. Candidates have to fill registration details like gender, state code of eligibility, nationality, etc. No fee will be charged for registration & choice filling.

 

Step 2 – Online Choice Filling and Locking

Candidates will have to fill up their choices by logging in using their Registration No (User ID), Roll No and Password to fill their choices as per branch, course and institute preference. They are permitted to change, edit, delete or add new choices until finalizing their choices. Candidates must lock their final choices before the due dates failing which leads to choices are locked automatically.

Applicants can select a maximum of 50 choices during online locking of choices. They are advised to take a print out of their finally submitted choices.

Important Notes:

1. Fitness Criteria required to be fulfilled by students for Mining and Petroleum Engineering:

Candidates planning to apply for Mining and Mining Machinery Engineering and related courses must fulfill additional fitness criteria as mentioned below:

  • These students should be free from color blindness and the standard of visual acuity with or without glasses should be as per DGMS circular (the distant vision of eye with or without glasses should be not less than 6/6 and 6/9 for worse eye)
  • Candidates applying for Petroleum engineering and related courses as well as those seeking admission in M.Sc. / M. Tech. in Applied Geology must be free from clause of color blindness also.

2. Special Eligibility for Female candidates in Mining Engineering Courses

  • ISM Dhanbad does not admit female students in Mining Engineering, Mining Machinery Engineering and any of the related courses.
  • Female candidates are however, eligible for admission in Mining Engineering at IIT Kharagpur and IIT (BHU) Varanasi, provided they fulfill the special medical requirements.
  • The female candidates as per Section 46 (1) of the Mines Act, 1952, are not permitted to work in mines below ground. They are allowed to work only between 6 AM to 7 PM on mines above ground level.

3. Admission to Architecture Courses in IITs

  • Candidates seeking admission in Architecture courses at the IITs should appear and pass the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) conducted at the seven Zonal IITs. The test will be conducted on June 19, 2018.(Tentative)
  • Candidates are required to choose B. Arch. at IIT Kharagpur or IIT Roorkee during online choice filling in counselling and appear for AAT 2018 also. JEE Advanced 2018 Admit Card issued would be required to appear for Architecture Aptitude Test.
  • Candidates would be however considered for admission, solely on the basis of JEE Advanced AIR and category rank of candidate.

 

Step 3 – Seat Allotment, Fee Payment & Seat Acceptance

Seat Allotment will be done on the basis of reservation norms, choices filled and vacancies. Candidates will get an Email/SMS regarding to the seat allotment after a few days of choice lock. Download the seat allotment letter.

The candidates can follow the steps mentioned below to check the status of seat allotment during JEE Advanced 2018 Counselling. The opening and closing ranks for all the categories would vary. Hence, the candidates securing higher in their respective categories will be allotted seats accordingly.

  • Log in using the Registration No (User ID), JEE Advanced 2018 Roll No and Password to check their seat allotment status.
  • Students should check their status of Seat Allotment at the end of every round.
  • Allotments might change due to up gradation. Hence, students should pay attention regarding this.
  • The soft copy of the category (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) certificates uploaded at the time of online registration will be scrutinized against originals during seat allocation
  • If the certificates uploaded are found to be inappropriate, the student will be treated as General only, if their score in the Paper-1 of JEE Main is above the cutoff score for General category.

Note: The seat allocation in JEE Advanced 2018 Counselling would be completed within three rounds. All the candidates are therefore advised to check the status after the completion of ever round, as there is a possibility that the seats allotted to them are upgraded because other students have either withdrawn from the course or have accepted seats they prefer.

After the JoSSA Seat Allocation process, the candidates have to make the fee payment for the allotted seats through SBI NET Banking / e-challan. The seat acceptance fees for candidates is as follows:

Step 4 – Reporting to the Allocated Institution

Candidates are required to report to the Zonal IIT after the seats are allotted to them. All the candidates should be present in person for verification of documents and payment of admission fee. The registration fee for General and reserved categories is mentioned below.

Step 5 – Provisional Admission

The institutes will issue a final allotment letter and grant provisional admission to candidates after verifying the documents and the fee is paid by the candidate. Candidates who fail to meet any eligibility criteria or are caught providing false information/documents will be debarred from the counselling process and their admission would be immediately deemed cancelled.

Documents Required for Provisional Admission

Students are required to submit original documents along with one attested photocopy during verification for taking provisional admission.

  • JEE Advanced 2018 Original Admit Card
  • JEE Advanced 2018 Seat Allotment Letter from JOCSAP website
  • JEE Advanced Application Form (duly filled)
  • Duly filled medical examination report
  • Birth Proof — Class Xth /HSC/Birth Certificate/Any other certificate as proof of data of birth
  • Class 12th or Equivalent Examination Mark sheet and Passing Certificate
  • Category Certificate (OBC (NCL)/SC/ST/PwD/DS) issued by competent authority as per the format in the JEE Advanced 2018 Brochure
  • Criteria for Foreign National students — Attested photocopy of the page in the passport comprising the name, photo and nationality.
  • DD towards the registration fee. It would be later adjusted towards the tuition fee, to be paid at the time of admission.

JEE Mains 2018 Counselling – Complete Process

The JEE Mains 2018 Counselling Process comprises of the following 5 major steps:

Step 1 – Online Registration

The candidates can register themselves for JEE Mains 2018 Counselling by following these steps.

  • Go to the official website of JoSAA.
  • Click on the lLgin page.
  • Enter the JEE Mains 2018 Roll No. and PasswordClick on the “Login” button.
  • Read the instructions carefully.
  • Click on the “I Agree” button.
  • After successful Login, Registration Form for JoSAA will open.
  • Fill all the details carefully.
  • Tick on the ”Declaration” button.
  • Now, Click on the “Submit” button.
  • Read the filled information carefully.
  • Click on the “Confirm Registration”.

 

Step 2 – Online Choice Filling and Locking

The candidates can now fill up their choice in JEE Mains 2018 Counselling Form and according to their preference register for the online choice filling and locking process. Follow the steps mentioned below. This will done in two stages.

Stage – 1

  • Visit the official website of JoSAA.
  • Enter your Mains 2018 Roll Number/JEE Advanced 2018 Roll Number and Password.
  • Click on the Login button to fill the registration form of JoSAA 2018.
  • Online JoSAA 2018 registration form will be displayed on the screen.
  • Go to the ‘Candidates Profile’ to check that all the details you entered are correct. Click on ‘Change Password’ to change the Password as it is compulsory.
  • Modify contact details by clicking “EDIT CONTACT DETAILS”
  • When you are finished with editing, click on ‘Submit Changes’.

Stage – 2

  • Now, Candidates have to select “Choice Available” option.
  • Select Institute Type, Institute Name & Academic Programme.
  • Now, Click on the “Choice Filling & Locking” option.
  • Choose Colleges & Courses. Fill maximum possible choices for allotment.
  • Arrange filled choices in decreasing order of the preferences.
  • If candidates want to change the filled choice, then click on the “Choice Interchange” option.
  • Now, click on the option “Choice Rearrange”.
  • Arrange the colleges according to the preferences.
  • Click on the “Save” button.
  • If candidates want to delete their filled choices, click on the “Multiple Deletion” option.
  • Lock the choices before the deadline by clicking on the option “Lock Choice”.
  • Make choices carefully, choices once locked will not change.
  • Choice locking will be done after each round of counselling.
  • Candidates can mark upgraded choice in successive rounds of choice filling and locking process.

 

Step 3 – Seat Allotment

  • Seat Allotment will be done on the basis of reservation norms, choices filled and vacancies.
  • Candidates will get an Email/SMS regards to the seat allotment after a few days of choice lock.
  • Download the seat allotment letter.

 

Step 4 – Fee Payment & Seat Acceptance

  • The candidates will be required to pay the Seat Acceptance fee for the JEE Main Seats through Net Banking or e-Challan.
  • All the documents provided by the candidate will be verified at the reporting center.
  • After the successful verification of the documents and payment of the fee, a provisional admission letter will be issued to the candidates.

Step 5 – Reporting to the Allocated Institution

This is the last step of JEE Main Counselling 2018 and seat allotment procedure. Candidates will be asked to report to their assigned institutes with original certificates and documentation on the allotted date to avoid cancellation.

  • Candidates have to report to the allotted institution after the fee acceptance.
  • Candidates have to report at the allotted college along with all the original documents and certificates.
  • Candidates, those allotted a seat in NIT, IIIT, IIEST & other GFTI colleges have to report only at reporting center of these institutions.

 

JEE Mains 2018 Counselling – Rounds

As mentioned above, there are seven rounds in the counselling process of IIT JEE Mains Exam. These rounds are conducted by the JoSSA. The details of these rounds are mentioned below.

Round 1

Based on the JEE Mains rank, the candidates will be selected for the first rounds of JEE Mains Counselling. Those who have allotted seats in this round, have to download Provisional Seat Allotment Letter and report at the reporting center.

Round 2

The seats which will be left vacant after first round of Counselling will be to be filled by the Round 2 of JEE Mains Counselling. The candidates who will be eligible to participate in this round, will have to report at the reporting center at the allotted date and time to accept or withdrew their seats.

Round 3

For further JoSSA Seat Allocation, the candidate opts for this round of counselling.

Round 4

The number of seats filled or available after 3rd round, will be to be filled by the candidates who are eligible for the 4th round of counselling.

Round 5

Central Board of Seat Allocation will allocate seats to the candidates who will be eligible for 5th round of counselling. The candidates have to report at the reporting center at the allotted time and date.

Round 6

The number of vacant seats still left will be filled with this round of counselling. The withdrawal or acceptance of seats by candidates can be performed by the candidates.

Round 7

This is the last round of counselling. The candidates have to report at the reporting center for the acceptance of seats. There is no withdrawal of seats in this round.

 

JEE Mains 2018 Counselling – Freeze, Float and Slide Options.

  • Freeze: Candidates, those accept the allotted seat & don’t want to participate in other counselling round.
  • Float: Candidates who accept the allotted seat & want to get admission to a better college, they will select this option. They can participate in further counselling rounds.
  • Slide: This option is for candidates, those accept the allotted seat & looking for the better option in the same institution. These candidates are considered for the other round of counselling.
  • In case, candidates want to make changes from float to slide/free & slide any option, they have to report at the allotted center for changes.
  • No changes will be allowed in the last round of seat allocation.
  • The slide & float option is only given to the candidates who have not been offered with admission to their first preferences.

 

JEE Mains 2018 Counselling – Withdrawal of Seats

  • If candidates want to withdraw their seats, they have to report at the reporting center before the sixth round of seat allocation.
  • Candidates will not be considered for the further round of counselling process after they have opted for withdrawal option.
  • After seat withdrawal, the seat acceptance fee will be refunded to the candidates after deduction of Rs. 1000 as a processing charge.
  • For seat withdrawal process, candidates have to fill their bank account details & upload an image of the cancelled cheque (same account) in a JPEG/JPG format. After that, the candidate cab download the withdrawal request letter.
  • Candidates have to bring the withdrawal request letter signed by their parents and report to the reporting center.

JEE Mains vs JEE Advanced – Admission

JEE Mains, if qualified, ensures admission in the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and colleges designated as “Government funded technical institutes” (GFTIs) and some other private institutes participating in JEE Mains Counselling depending on the scores secured. Whereas, candidates seeking admission to the various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad need to qualify JEE Advanced. However, as mentioned above only the students selected in JEE Mains are eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced.

 

JEE Mains vs JEE Advanced – Difficulty level

When we talk about difficulty level, it is a well-known fact that JEE Advanced is far more difficult than JEE Mains. While the aim of JEE Mains is to make sure that the students comprehend their class 11th and 12th syllabus properly. On the other hand JEE-Advanced has a more logical approach it emphasizes more on practical application of the concepts and problem-solving skills of the students.

 

JEE Mains vs JEE Advanced – No. of Papers

JEE Mains and JEE Advanced both have two papers but, it is not compulsory for all the candidates to take both the papers in JEE Mains whereas, in JEE Advanced it is compulsory to give both the papers. In JEE Mains Paper 1 is for those who want admission in B.E. and B.Tech courses and Paper 2 is for those who want admission in B.Arch and B.Planning courses. On the In JEE Advanced candidates must sit for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 in this exam to get admission into engineering courses. For the candidates who wish to be admitted into architectural courses that IITs offer, the student must clear both Paper 1 and Paper 2 in the exam and then sit for the Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT).

 

JEE Mains vs JEE Advanced – No. of Attempts

Candidates can’t appear in the exam as many times as they wish. The exam authorities have set a rule for the number of attempts. For JEE Mains, according to a notification by CBSE, the maximum number of attempts are limited to 3. Whereas, for JEE Advanced a candidate can attempt the exam maximum two times and that too in consecutive years.

 

JEE Mains vs JEE Advanced – Syllabus

There is a slight difference in the syllabus of both the exams (JEE Mains – Paper 1 and JEE Advanced – Paper 1 & 2). Some topics covered in JEE Mains are not in the syllabus of JEE Advanced and vice versa.

The question paper pattern is fixed for JEE Mains whereas it slightly changes every year for JEE Advanced. The No. of Questions, Marks Distribution and even the Type of Questions asked in JEE Mains Exam are all fixed. On the other hand all these factors keep on changing in the JEE Advanced Exam.

Last Month preparations for JEE Advanced
The Last Month before JEE Advanced 2018

Hello JEE Aspirants!

It is the last month  before JEE Advanced Exam. This is actually one of the worst phases of your IIT JEE preparation – you are actually done with it, but have to keep going through the same routine time and again, study the exact same things repeatedly. Thus, we have come up with important tips and tricks for you to sail through this difficult phase easily and attain maximum productivity in this crucial time.

This is the final stretch – that final period, where you can actually stake a strong claim to an IIT/NIT seat. The groundwork has been done in the previous two years of your preparation and the time has come to construct on everything you did in that time. It’s the last lap; stop jogging and take a sprint. Now is the time for you to change the gears, press the accelerator to speed on without losing focus and ensure you reach that finish point with flying colors. Following a proper schedule and practicing certain things regularly will definitely take you to your destination.

Here are a few tried and tested tips and tricks to manage the last months’ time before the exam:

 

Revision is the key

There is no use of studying if you don’t remember the topics you studied during your JEE Preparation. Humans’ memory fades away gradually if they don’t revise them. Without proper revision, you will not be able to commemorate things in your mind. It plays a very big role in your preparation, so it is very important.

Revise all the concepts from notes with flags on question requiring tricks and analytical reasoning. Devote equal time to all the 3 subjects. Do not study new topics. Just review all the chapters that you’ve read in the last two years. Don’t go for new theory books as it can be a bit stressful to open a completely new author with their altogether different narration and examples in the last month.

It is a notion among people that JEE won’t have memory-based questions but it is completely wrong. JEE does ask memory based questions, and they make up almost 20% of the paper. It is advisable to be very thorough with memorizing based sections from the syllabus, also be very thorough with all the scoring topics. JEE syllabus consists of several easy-scoring topics scattered here and there do not forget to take advantage from them. Even the examiners are generous enough to give a good weightage to these topics. So it’d be worth your while to spend some time on these topics during this period.

 

You can’t manage anything if you don’t manage time

With time running out, the most important task is managing the time you have and planning things in the most efficient way possible. Until you manage time, you can’t manage anything else. If you are not following any fixed schedule of studying then make one now which suits you best but keeping a few things in mind. It is advisable that you accustom yourself to the exam hours, take proper sleep because a tired mind will not bear the right fruit when the final day arrives. Schedule your day such that you attempt one paper, analyse the attempt and revise where ever needed; study one topic from each subject per day.

Acing JEE Advanced is not just about preparation, it is about solving the maximum number of questions accurately within the given interval of time. So start with this agenda in mind. If you are unable to solve a question, please don’t waste your time on the same and move on to the next question. Don’t be in a hurry to get everything right. It is better to get few things right than many things wrong.

Optimize your preparations in the last month before JEE Advanced, the best strategy is to focus on those topics, from which you can get more score, which is easy to understand for you or which can be studied faster. Try using short and simple tricks make it a habit to use them and practice them regularly this will definitely save some time for more productive things.

 

Solve as many as previous papers and give ample of mock tests

To fill up your arsenal with new set of questions solve as many test papers as you can and give ample of mock tests. Solving these papers will not only increase your knowledge but will also you build up your stamina, and you will actually learn how to attempt papers in specified time period. Join a good All India Level Test Series. Try to go for a test series which gives you a proper analysis your current performance and where you stand now. The aim is to boost your self-confidence. They’ll help in pointing out where you go wrong, what topics need revision and where your weaknesses lie. Analyse yourself at the end of each test.

It is that time of your preparation for JEE Advanced when you need to know how to rightly put into practice all that you have learnt. Don’t practice until you get it right. Practice until you can’t get it wrong.

 

Go through your short notes and synopses

This is for those who have a good habit of making short notes and synopses of chapters when you study them in detail. Noting down important formulas and jotting down important things needed to be brushed before the exam at one place save time and energy simultaneously. Synopses are really helpful in quick go-throughs of chapters. This can be your JEE Advanced ready reckoner.

As per toppers and experts, short notes are necessary and important for revision. In the last days, this is an aid that comes into use the most. Sometimes, even if you have a strong conceptual base, you can miss some questions because of the formulas, which just skipped from your mind. So, thoroughly go through the short notes you’ve prepared as many possible to get good marks in the exam.

 

Believe in yourself but don’t let overconfidence get in your head

Rule Number 1 of surviving this period – make sure your head is in the right place. The most important thing at this stage of the preparation is self-confidence. Your confidence will determine your efficiency; overconfidence or under-confidence will both reduce your efficiency. Make sure that does not happen.

Believe in yourself. Trust the efforts that you have put in throughout the JEE preparation. Don’t get demotivated and tensed. There might be times when you might not perform that well in the mock exam as compared to other occasions. Avoid negativity. Keep your mind free and possibly do things which relax you. Be positive, Be Hopeful & Be Confident.

 

Take care of your health

Students tend to ignore their health and sleep while preparing during this time but everyone knows that Health is wealth. While you are in the last month before your exam r to eat well and remain healthy.

Avoid junk food and eat healthy. Developing a habit of eating right will keep you nourished and supply sufficient energy to carry on with studies. You can’t take the risk of falling ill. Stay hydrated as this is summer at its best. Rest and take breaks when needed. It is advised to sleep for at least 7-8 hours a day. Stress Busters

Easy to say but try and avoid stressing out. While taking breaks, ensure you take time for some of your favourite pastimes. However this can exclude social media, phone chats as they are time killers. Do meditation for easing stress, listen to music, go for walks, talk to your friends and so on. Such activities are stress busters and help you keep your cool and calm. It is important that a stress free environment exists for a successful run towards JEE Exams.

 

The final exam day

Once you get the question paper in the examination hall read it thoroughly. According to the difficulty level try and prioritise the order of answering the questions. Avoid negative marks as much as you can because negative marking can decrease your score. Attempt all those questions first which do not carry negative marks or those in which you are confident enough. Don’t get anxious if you find the paper tough since only relative performance is countable, if the paper is really tough it will be tough for everyone else also. Just have faith in yourself and give your best.

Remember, all the efforts that you put in the JEE preparations might be wasted if you do not utilize these last days properly. So be on your toes, stay sharp, and don’t let negative things take over your mind. Eat properly, don’t compromise on sleep and stay healthy. Good luck!

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an engineering entrance examination, held at national level in India every year. The government based body responsible to conduct this exam successfully is the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). JEE is further divided into phases – JEE Mains and the JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is internationally recognized as one of the most challenging undergraduate admission tests. JEE mains is conducted by CBSE, whereas the second phase i.e. JEE Advanced is conducted by IITs on a rotation basis.

In the year 2012, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India announced this two phase pattern for JEE. AIEEE and state level engineering entrance exams were replaced by JEE Mains, which if qualified, ensures admission in the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and some other colleges designated as “centrally funded technical institutes” (CFTIs) depending on the scores secured. Whereas, IIT-JEE was replaced by JEE Advanced, for admission to the various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad.

Only the students selected in JEE Mains are eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced. About 2,24,000 Top students will be selected from all appearing students in 2018. Some institutes like the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER), Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, and the Indian Institute of Science also asks for the JEE Advanced score for admission.

From the year 2017, CBSE has introduced a new eligibility criteria wherein, the applicant must have a valid registered Aadhar Card to appear in JEE Exams. Possessing a valid Aadhar Card is mandatory for identification and authentication of the candidate applying for JEE Exams. The applicant has to provide his/her Aadhar Card Number, Name, date of Birth and Gender (Transgender Candidates can apply in ‘Others’ Category) while filling the application form. Applicants must ensure that the details provided in their Aadhar Card matches with that of their school records.

In case, the details do not match, applicants should get them rectified in either of them.

Candidates from J&K, Meghalaya, and Assam who have passed or are appearing in Class XII and do not possess Aadhar Card, will have to provide any other valid Govt. identity like passport number, ration card number, bank account number, etc., provided they have selected city of examination in these states only.

  • The Diploma Degree holders are not eligible for admission to NITs/CFTIs after qualifying Mains. They must appear in JEE Advanced 2018 & qualify it to become eligible for admission to Engineering Programs.
  • The Diploma Degree holders will be treated as 12th Qualified only.
  • In case the candidates fail in any subject in 12th Class and he/she gives the improvement exam next year, then it is mandatory to give the exam for all the 5 subjects. The Authorities will consider the best performance in any of the two subjects of improvement exam.
  • If any candidate, who has qualified the 12th, wishes to appear in improvement exam for some selected subject, then his/her 12th Marks of the previous year will only be considered in JEE Main.

Under guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB), one of the seven zonal IITs (IIT Roorkee, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, and IIT Guwahati) conduct the second phase of JEE – JEE Advanced. If a student seeks admissions in any one of the present 23 IITs, ISM (Dhanbad), and other leading institutes such as Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum TechnologyIndian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISERs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), then JEE Advanced is the final step which will take him/her to its destination but only after qualifying the JEE Mains exam and securing a minimum score in their 12th Board or any other qualifying exam depending on the category.

 

JEE Advanced – The gateway to IITs 

JEE Advanced is recognized as one of the toughest exam conducted nationwide. Admission rate in the IITs is very low, the current admission rate being 0.92%, calculated approximately according to the previous year data. Competition is further increased as Foreign Nationals are also allowed to take the exam from last year. The exam tests students, based on their logical, analytical and conceptual learning abilities. JEE Advanced exam is organized each year by one of the various IITs, on a round robin rotation pattern, here is a list of IITs who have conducted or will conduct it in previous and upcoming years respectively.

JEE Advanced have 2 papers which are mandatory for all candidates to qualify the exam. From this year onwards, it will solely be held as a computer-based test (CBT) in English language only.

A substantial increment has been observed in the number of students taking up the JEE Advanced Exam. Recently, the number of qualified candidates who can take up the JEE Advanced Exam 2018 has increased from 2.20 lakhs to over 2.24 lakhs. According to the JEE Advanced 2017 Analysis, out of the 1.7 lakh registered candidates, 1.6 lakh appeared for the JEE-Advanced examination in 2017. Nearly 50,455 students qualified the Advance Exam.

What’s new in JEE Advanced 2018?

  • JEE Advanced 2018 will be completely online. The exam will now be computer-based, unlike the previous years when it was pen and paper-based.
  • The horizontal reservation for PwD candidates in each category for admission has been increased to 5% from 3%.
  • Additional seats will be created for female candidates to increase their presence from the existing 8% to 14%.
  • Category-wise distribution of candidates for seats has been changed for 2018.
  • An additional 4000 candidates will be able to sit for the JEE Advanced 2018 making the total number of candidates eligible to appear for the exam to 2,24,000.
  • The application fee of JEE Advanced 2018 has been increased for all categories.
  • A total of 5 exam centers must be chosen while filling the application form instead of the earlier three.
  • During the test, if candidates find any malfunctioning or any problem with the computer, then candidates will be allotted another system and care will be taken that the exam duration of 3 hours is given to them.
  • GST will not be applicable to the registration fee of JEE Advanced 2018.
