NEET Age limit

• For the candidates of unreserved category (UR) or reserved category like SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD category, lower age limit is 17 years of age on or before December 31, 2007 and there is no upper age limit for NEET UG 2024 examination. 

• Earlier, there used to be upper age limit of 25 years for unreserve category candidates and 5 year relaxation for reserved category candidates. But after the amendment in 2018 for NEET UG eligibility criteria, the restrictions on upper age limit for NEET was removed for all categories.

For the candidates of unreserved category (UR) or reserved category like SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD category, there is no restriction on the number of attempts for NEET 2023 examination

NEET Eligibility 2024 - What is the Upper age limit?

• There is no upper age limit for NEET UG examination 2024 for any category of candidates. 

• Earlier there was an upper age limit of 25 years in NEET UG examination, which was withdrawn in 2018 as per the decision of the Supreme Court of India.

Number of attempts for NEET 2024 for General Category

There is no cap for the number of attempts for NEET 2024 for general category. Earlier, there used to be 3 attempts for the general category to appear in NEET exam. But after the amendment in 2018 for NEET UG eligibility criteria, the restrictions on the number of attempts for NEET was removed. Therefore, there is no restriction on the number of attempts for NEET 2024 for general category.

Number of attempts for NEET 2024 for EWS Category

There is no restriction for the number of attempts for NEET 2024 for EWS category.

Number of attempts for NEET 2024 for OBC Category

There is no restriction for the number of attempts for NEET 2024 for OBC category. Earlier, there used to be restriction on number of attempts for the OBC category to appear in NEET exam. But after the amendment in 2018 for NEET UG eligibility criteria, the restrictions on the number of attempts for NEET was removed for all categories. Therefore, there is no restriction on the number of attempts for NEET 2024 for OBC category.

• Candidates must be 17 years of age on or before December 31, 2007 and there is no upper age limit for NEET UG 2024 examination for general category.

• Earlier, for general category candidates, maximum age limit is 25 years of age. But after the amendment in 2018 for NEET UG eligibility criteria, there is no upper age limit for NEET UG examination for general category.

Candidates must be 17 years of age on or before December 31, 2007 and there is no upper age limit for NEET UG 2024 examination for EWS category.

NEET Age limit for OBC category 2024

• Candidates must be 17 years of age on or before December 31, 2007 and there is no upper age limit for NEET UG examination for OBC category.

• Earlier, for OBC category candidates, maximum age limit is 30 years of age. But after the amendment in 2018 for NEET UG eligibility criteria, there is no upper age limit for NEET UG examination for OBC category.

• Candidates of SC/ST category must be 17 years of age on or before December 31, 2007 and there is no upper age limit for NEET UG examination for SC/ST category.

• Earlier, for SC/ST category candidates, maximum age limit is 30 years of age. But after the amendment in 2018 for NEET UG eligibility criteria, there is no upper age limit for NEET UG examination for SC/ST category.

NEET Age limit for PwD category 2024

• Candidates of PwD category must be 17 years of age on or before December 31, 2007 and there is no upper age limit for NEET UG examination for PwD category.

NEET 2024 Reservation Criteria

NEET 2024 reservation criteria for admission to state medical and dental colleges and central universities through MCC all india counselling. It is important to select the correct NEET reservation category during NEET 2024 registration as there will be no changes are allowed later. 

• NEET 2024 reservation for different categories is given in the following table:

NOTE: 

1. Reservation criteria for NEET 2024 for all different categories in above table is for only 15% All india quota (AIQ) seats. 

2. Reservation criteria for NEET 2024 of state quota seats and private colleges is decided by respective state counselling authorities.

3. 15% All india quota (AIQ) seats means 15% seats of all 742 medical colleges in india (including private, government and public private colleges) will be filled via centralised all india counselling for the 15% seats.

4. Tamil Nadu government has also approved the proposal of 7.5% reservation for government school students in Tamil Nadu state medical colleges after qualifying NEET 2024

5. Remaining 85% seats are state quota seats. NEET reservation criteria for state quota seats is determined by state counselling authorities.

6. NEET reservation criteria for state quota seats may not match the NEET reservation policy 2024, as the state counselling authorities govern the admission process for the government medical and dental colleges in that state only.
