JEE Main & JEE Advanced — An Overview
JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) is India's most prestigious engineering entrance pathway. It operates in two stages: JEE Main, conducted by the NTA, is the gateway to NITs, IIITs, and other top engineering colleges. JEE Advanced, conducted by the IITs on rotation, is the final step for admission to the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology.
JEE Main is the first choice for admission in undergraduate engineering and architecture programs such as B.E., B.Tech., B.Arch., and B.Planning. JEE Advanced is designed to identify the most qualified candidates for India's premier IITs, known for their outstanding academic and research reputation.

About JEE 2027
Official dates for JEE Main January 2027 will be released by NTA at jeemain.nta.nic.in. JEE Advanced 2027 dates will be announced by the respective IITs. Check back here — we update as soon as notifications are published.
JEE Main & Advanced Syllabus
Both JEE Main and JEE Advanced cover Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics based on the NCERT Class 11 and Class 12 curriculum. JEE Advanced goes deeper — expect higher conceptual difficulty and more problem-solving focus.
The main objective of this syllabus is to test students' ability to understand complex concepts, solve problems, and think critically. Thorough knowledge of these subjects is essential for success.

JEE 2027 Exam Date Schedule
JEE Main exam dates for January and April sessions are declared by NTA at jeemain.nta.nic.in. JEE Advanced 2027 dates will be announced separately. Based on historical patterns, the expected schedule is as follows:
JEE Main Session 1 — Registration Opens
Application form released at jeemain.nta.nic.in. Fill in personal details, upload documents, and pay the fee online.
JEE Main Session 1 — Examination
Computer-based test held across multiple days. The admit card is released approximately 2 weeks prior.
JEE Main Session 1 — Result & Answer Key
Provisional answer key released; candidates may raise challenges within the stipulated window.
JEE Main Session 2 — Registration & Exam
April session application and examination. The best of two NTA scores is considered for merit.
JEE Advanced — Registration
Top 2.5 lakh Main qualifiers register at jeeadv.ac.in. Registration is mandatory; qualifying Main alone is not sufficient.
JEE Advanced — Examination (Paper 1 & Paper 2)
Both papers were held on the same day in two sessions. The admit card was released before the exam.
Results & JoSAA Counselling
JEE Advanced results declared. JoSAA counselling begins for seat allocation across IITs, NITs, and IIITs.
Note
The above dates are expected based on past trends. Official dates will be confirmed by NTA and the respective IIT conducting JEE Advanced 2027.
JEE Main & Advanced Previous Year Question Papers
Solving JEE Main and JEE Advanced question papers from previous years is one of the best ways to prepare for the exam. It helps you get familiar with the exam format, question types, and difficulty level.
By analysing past JEE Advanced papers, you can understand how the exam is structured, what types of questions are asked, and how they are distributed across subjects. You will also get a realistic idea of the difficulty level, which helps you adjust your preparation and set practical expectations.
Timed practice with past papers will help you develop the time management skills you need on exam day. You will also be able to identify which topics and concepts are tested more frequently, so you can focus your study accordingly.
Smart Strategy
Solve at least the last 10 years of both JEE Main and Advanced papers under timed conditions. Analyse your mistakes after each attempt — don't just move on without understanding where you went wrong.
JEE Main & Advanced Answer Key
The JEE Main answer key is an important tool released by NTA shortly after the exam at jeemain.nta.nic.in. It provides the correct answers to all questions. Similarly, the JEE Advanced conducting authority releases the answer key after the Advanced exam.
Answer keys allow you to do a self-assessment and estimate your score before official results are announced. You can also check your answers against the official key to spot any errors or inconsistencies. If you disagree with any answer, you can raise a challenge within the specified time frame by paying a nominal fee per question.
For JEE Advanced, the answer key also helps candidates estimate their All India Rank (AIR) in advance — which is crucial for understanding college admission prospects.
Challenge Window
Both JEE Main and JEE Advanced allow candidates to challenge the provisional answer key. If a challenge is accepted, the scores are revised, and the challenge fee is refunded.
JEE Main & Advanced Cutoff
JEE Main cutoff is the minimum score or percentile a candidate must achieve to qualify for JEE Advanced or to be considered for admission to NITs, IIITs, and other engineering institutes. The cutoff is determined by factors such as exam difficulty, total number of candidates, and seats available.
JEE Advanced cutoff is the minimum score required for IIT admission. Cutoffs are set annually by the Joint Admission Board (JAB) and vary by category. General category candidates typically face a higher cutoff than reserved category candidates. Candidates who meet the cutoff must then participate in JoSAA counselling for seat allocation.
| Category | JEE Main Cutoff (Indicative) | JEE Advanced Cutoff (Indicative) |
|---|---|---|
| General (GEN) | ~89–95 percentile | ~35–40% aggregate |
| OBC-NCL | ~74–80 percentile | ~31–36% |
| SC | ~54–60 percentile | ~17–22% |
| ST | ~44–50 percentile | ~17–20% |
| PwD | ~0.11 percentile | ~17% |
* Indicative figures based on recent trends. 2027 cutoffs will be officially declared by NTA/JAB after the results.
JEE Main & Advanced Application Form 2027
The JEE Main application form is released online by NTA at jeemain.nta.nic.in. The form includes personal details, academic information, exam centre preferences, a photograph, and a signature. Candidates must fill it correctly, upload the required documents, and pay the application fee online within the given deadline.
The JEE Advanced application form is available at jeeadv.ac.in and is managed by the JAB. Only candidates who have qualified for the JEE Main and are within the top 2.5 lakh are eligible to register. The form requires personal details, qualifications, and exam centre preferences along with document uploads and fee payment.
Filling in the application form correctly is a very important first step for getting admission to the best engineering and architecture institutes in India. Errors in the form can cause serious issues — so double-check every field before submitting.
Application Checklist
Keep scanned copies of your photograph, signature, Class 10 & 12 certificates, and category certificate (if applicable) ready before starting the form.
JEE Main & Advanced Admit Card 2027
The JEE Main admit card is released online by NTA and can be downloaded from jeemain.nta.nic.in. The JEE Advanced admit card is issued by the respective conducting IIT at jeeadv.ac.in. Both must be downloaded and printed by the candidate — they are not sent by post.
The admit card contains important detail including your name, roll number, exam centre, date, and time of the exam. It serves as proof of eligibility and is required to enter the examination hall. You must also carry a valid government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar, Passport, etc.) along with your admit card on the day of the exam.
Do Not Forget
Candidates without a valid admit card and photo ID will not be permitted to enter the exam hall under any circumstances. Download and check your admit card well in advance.
