Changes Introduced in JEE Main Exams 2023

 5 major Changes are introduced in JEE Main exams 2023:

  • 75% Criteria: Admission to B.E., B.Arch, B. Planning courses to various institutions as prescribed will be based on the All India Rank secured by the student. However, this is subject to the condition that students must secure a minimum of 75 % in the class 12th examination held by any recognized board. In the case of SC/ST students, the limit of 75% is reduced to 65%.

  • The number of exam cities decreased: In India the number of exam cities decreased to 399 as compared to 514 cities last year. While abroad this number has increased to 24 from 13 last year.

  • Increase in JEE Main registration fees: JEE Main registration fees for students in India has increased for male students from 650 Rs to 1000 Rs and for female candidates it is 800 Rs only. In the case of SC, ST, PwD, and third Gender students have to pay 500 Rs, earlier it was Rs 325. In the case of students residing abroad, fees have increased to Rs 5000 and Rs 4000 for male and female students respectively. Earlier it was Rs 3000 Rs and Rs 1500 for male and female students respectively.

  • Mandatory Parents Details: Students have to provide the Email and Phone Numbers of the parents/guardians to complete the registration process which was not mandatory earlier.

  • One application: Students applying for the JEE Main Exams students can apply for only one session at a time According to NTA “ Strict actions will be taken against students who apply for more than one application at a time”

Sections, Subjects included, and Marking pattern of JEE Mains

JEE Main Exam Pattern 2023 - Paper 1

Exam Mode: The JEE Main 2023 exam will be conducted in a computer-based test mode, which means you will take the test on a computer.

Exam Duration: The total duration of the exam will be 3 hours. However, for persons with benchmark disabilities, the exam duration will be 4 hours.

Subjects: The exam will cover three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Total Number of Questions: There will be a total of 90 questions in the exam, but you need to answer only 75 questions. Each subject will have 20 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and 10 numerical questions, out of which you need to answer 5 numerical questions.

Type of Questions: The exam will have two types of questions. The first type is objective questions, where you will have 4 options to choose from, and only one option will be correct. The second type is numerical questions, where you need to calculate the answer and enter it.

Marking Scheme: For the MCQs, you will be awarded 4 marks for every correct answer, and 1 mark will be deducted for every incorrect answer. For the numerical questions, the marking scheme is the same as MCQs.

Maximum Marks: The maximum marks for the JEE Main 2023 exam will be 300.

Medium of Paper: The exam can be taken in various languages, including English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.

JEE Main Exam Pattern 2023 - Paper 2

Mode of Examination: The JEE Main 2023 exam will be conducted in a computer-based format, except for the Drawing section in the B.Arch paper, which will be done offline.

Language of Examination: The exam will be available in English and Hindi for all center cities.

Duration of Examination: The total duration of the exam is 3 hours.

Number of Sections: Both B.Arch and B.Plan papers have three sections.

B.Arch:

a.) Mathematics

b.) Aptitude test

c.) Drawing test

B.Plan:

a.) Mathematics

b.) Aptitude test

c.) Planning test

Type of Questions: In the B.Arch paper, the Mathematics section has multiple-choice questions and questions with numerical value answers. The Aptitude section has multiple-choice questions, and the Drawing section tests your drawing aptitude. In the B.Plan paper, the Mathematics and Aptitude sections have multiple-choice questions, while the Planning section also consists of multiple-choice questions.

Number of Questions: The B.Arch paper has a total of 82 questions, while the B.Plan paper has 105 questions.

Total Marks: The maximum mark for both papers is 400.

Marking Scheme: For multiple-choice questions, you will be awarded 4 marks for each correct answer, and there will be a negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer. For questions with numerical value answers, the marking scheme remains the same. In the Drawing Test of the B.Arch paper, two questions will be evaluated out of 100 marks.
