Step 1 — Solve Under Timed Conditions First

Step 2 — Analyse Subject-by-Subject

After checking the answers, break your score into Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics separately. Compare across multiple shifts to spot which subject is consistently dragging your total score down.

What Changes Were Introduced in JEE Main 2023? 

NTA introduced five notable changes in the 2023 JEE Main cycle. Understanding these matters for students planning future attempts, as several changes have been carried forward.

1. 75% Eligibility Criteria Reinstated

Admission to B.E., B.Arch, and B.Planning courses is based on the All India Rank (AIR), but candidates must also score a minimum of 75% in Class 12 (65% for SC/ST students) from a recognised board. This criterion was relaxed during the COVID years and returned in 2023.

2. Fewer Exam Cities in India

The number of Indian exam cities dropped from 514 to 399. Simultaneously, international centres increased from 13 to 24 cities, reflecting NTA's push to serve Indian students studying abroad.

Students were required to submit the email address and phone number of a parent or guardian during registration — a new compliance step for 2023.

5. One Application Per Session Rule

Question Types and Marking Scheme

Each subject has 20 MCQs + 10 Numerical questions (attempt any 5 numerical per subject).

The 300-mark ceiling means consistent accuracy across all three subjects matters far more than attempting every question. A focused student targeting 200+ marks should aim for near-perfect accuracy in their two strongest subjects. •  MCQs: +4 for correct, −1 for incorrect
• Numerical Value: +4 for correct, −1 for incorrect
• Drawing Test (B.Arch only): 2 questions evaluated out of 100 marks total

The Drawing test is the most differentiating section for B.Arch aspirants. Unlike MCQs, there is no negative marking in Drawing, and it rewards consistent practice over last-minute cramming.

Changes Introduced in JEE Main Exams 2023

 5 major Changes are introduced in JEE Main exams 2023:

• 75% Criteria: Admission to B.E., B.Arch, and B. Planning courses to various institutions as prescribed will be based on the All India Rank secured by the student. However, this is subject to the condition that students must secure a minimum of 75 % in the class 12th examination held by any recognised board. In the case of SC/ST students, the limit of 75% is reduced to 65%.

• The number of exam cities decreased: In India, the number of exam cities decreased to 399 as compared to 514 cities last year. While abroad, this number has increased to 24 from 13 last year.

• Increase in JEE Main registration fees: JEE Main registration fees for students in India have increased for male students from 650 Rs to 1000 Rs, and for female candidates, it is 800 Rs only. In the case of SC, ST, PwD, and third Gender students have to pay 500 Rs, earlier it was Rs 325. In the case of students residing abroad, fees have increased to Rs 5000 and Rs 4000 for male and female students, respectively. Earlier, it was Rs 3000 Rs and Rs 1500 for male and female students respectively.

• Mandatory Parents' Details: Students have to provide the Email and Phone Numbers of the parents/guardians to complete the registration process, which was not mandatory earlier.

• One application: Students applying for the JEE Main Exams can apply for only one session at a time. According to NTA, “ Strict actions will be taken against students who apply for more than one application at a time”
