About BDS Course

Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is an undergraduate professional degree program in the field of dentistry that is provided in the BDS colleges. The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course is designed to train students to become dental professionals, equipping students with the necessary knowledge of dentistry and skills to diagnose and treat oral diseases and disorders.

Here are some key points about the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course:

Duration: The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course typically has a duration of five years, which includes both academic and practical training.

Curriculum: The curriculum of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course is comprehensive and covers various aspects of dentistry, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, pathology etc.

Clinical Training: Practical training is an important component of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course. Dental students are trained in dental clinics and hospitals to develop hands-on skills in diagnosis, treatment planning, and performing dental procedures under supervision.

Internship: After completing the academic portion of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course, Dental students are often required to undergo a mandatory internship. During this period, they work in hospitals or dental clinics to gain practical experience in treating patients.

Specializations: After completing a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course, some students choose to pursue postgraduate studies (MDS or Master of Dental Surgery) to specialize in a particular area of dentistry, such as oral surgery, orthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, etc.

Career Opportunities: After completing Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) course, BDS graduates can pursue careers as general dentists in private practice, hospitals, or dental clinics. BDS graduates can also explore opportunities in research, teaching, or public health.

How to get admission in BDS college (Cut-off against each medical college - estimation)

Admission to the BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) course usually takes place through the national-level medical exam known as the NEET exam conducted across the country. BDS course has been made mandatory since 2016 and admission to medical courses like MBBS, BDS, etc. requires students to appear for the NEET exam. In order to be eligible for the BDS course, students must attain a minimum of 50% in the 10+2 qualifying examination. Candidates who want to pursue BDS course, are allowed to enter the admission process of the BDS college only if they meet the eligibility criteria. Once the NEET aspirants clear the cut-off set for the BDS program, they can proceed with the counseling sessions for admission to the BDS college.
