Given, $5(x-1)-2(x+8)=0$
$\Rightarrow \quad 5 x-5-2 x-16=0$
$\Rightarrow \quad 3 x-21=0$
$\Rightarrow$ $3 x=21$ [transposing $-21$ to RHS]
$\Rightarrow$ $\frac{3 x}{3}=\frac{21}{3}$ [dividing both sides by 3 ]
$\therefore$ $x=7$
