Factorise:

Question:

Factorise:

$4 a^{2}-4 b^{2}+4 a+1$

Solution:

$4 a^{2}-4 b^{2}+4 a+1$

$=\left(4 a^{2}+4 a+1\right)-4 b^{2}$

$=\left[(2 a)^{2}+2 \times 2 a \times 1+1^{2}\right]-4 b^{2}$

$=(2 a+1)^{2}-(2 b)^{2} \quad\left[a^{2}+2 a b+b^{2}=(a+b)^{2}\right]$

$=[(2 a+1)+2 b][(2 a+1)-2 b] \quad\left[a^{2}-b^{2}=(a+b)(a-b)\right]$

$=(2 a+1+2 b)(2 a+1-2 b)$

$=(2 a+2 b+1)(2 a-2 b+1)$
