Show that x = −2 is a solution of

Question:

Show that $x=-2$ is a solution of $3 x^{2}+13 x+14=0$.

Solution:

Given that the equation $3 x^{2}+13 x+14=0$

$3 x^{2}+7 x+6 x+14=0$

$x(3 x+7)+2(3 x+7)=0$

$(3 x+7)(x+2)=0$

$(3 x+7)=0$

$x=\frac{-7}{3}$

$x=\frac{-7}{3}$

or

$(x+2)=0$

$x=-2$

Therefore, $x=-2$ is the solution of given equation.

Hence, proved.
