Category-Wise Minimum Qualifying Marks
You must clear BOTH the per-subject minimum AND the aggregate minimum to appear in the rank list.
| Category | Per Subject Minimum | Aggregate Minimum |
|---|---|---|
| General (CRL) | ~10% (~12 marks) | ~35% (~126 marks) |
| OBC-NCL / EWS | ~9% (~11 marks) | ~31.5% (~113 marks) |

Note: In 2025, the General category aggregate cutoff dropped to ~20.56% (approximately 74 marks out of 360) — lower than 2024, reflecting a harder paper. Official cutoffs are released with results at jeeadv.ac.in.
How to Use the JEE Advanced Rank Predictor
Step 1 — Calculate your total marks. Add Physics + Chemistry + Mathematics scores from both Paper 1 and Paper 2. Your total is out of 360. Use the eSaral official answer key for accuracy.
Step 2 — Enter marks and select categorization.y Type your total into the predictor. Choose your reservation category: General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS, or PwD. Category rank — not just AIR — determines your actual IIT seat eligibility.
Step 3 — Get your AIR Your estimated All India Rank and category rank appear instantly. Cross-reference with the marks vs rank table above to map your band to IIT options.

Tie-Breaking Rules in JEE Advanced 2025
If two or more candidates score identical total marks, ranks are decided in this sequence:
- Higher positive marks win
- If tied, the higher Mathematics score decides
- If still tied — higher Physics score decides
- If the tie persists, the same rank is assigned to both candidates

Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions.
How accurate is the eSaral JEE Advanced rank predictor?
The predictor is built on official IIT Kanpur rank distribution data from 2023–2025. For most score ranges, predictions are accurate within ±1,000–2,000 rank positions. At high scores above 270 marks, accuracy improves to ±300–500 positions. Accuracy depends entirely on how precisely you enter your marks.
What is the expected rank for 150 marks in JEE Advanced?
Based on 2025 trends, 150 marks in JEE Advanced places a General category candidate in approximately the AIR 3,500–6,000 range. This gives realistic options at mid-tier and newer IITs. For OBC-NCL and SC candidates, the same score produces a more competitive category rank.
What are the minimum marks to get into any IIT through JEE Advanced?
For General category in 2025, you needed approximately 74–126 marks to appear in the rank list (the qualifying cutoff was 20.56% aggregate, lower than previous years). Appearing in the rank list is the first step. To actually secure an IIT seat, you typically need 90+ marks for newer IITs, 150+ for mid-tier IITs, and 200+ for older IITs.
Should I use self-estimated marks or answer-key-verified marks in the predictor?
Always use answer-key-verified marks. Self-estimated marks introduce significant error — especially in JEE Advanced, which has multiple question types with different marking schemes (full marks, partial marks, negative marks). A 5-mark error in self-assessment can shift your predicted AIR by 1,000+ positions at competitive score bands.
What is the difference between AIR and category rank in JEE Advanced?
AIR (All India Rank) is your position among all qualified candidates. Category rank is your position within your reservation category. IITs use category rank — not AIR — to allocate reserved seats during JoSAA counselling. Both are shown in the eSaral rank predictor output.
