JEE Main 2024 Exam Preparation

JEE Mains & Advanced

JEE Main is the first step in the IIT JEE process. It's a computer-driven online exam run by the NTA (National Testing Agency) for students who want to study in India's top engineering colleges, like NITs. Students are admitted to these colleges, state-funded technical institutes, and other government-funded technical institutes on the basis of the marks they get in the JEE Main. The NTA score is taken into account by the exam conducting authority when formulating the ranks or merit list. Students can choose to appear in just one exam or in all of them. The top 2.5 lakh students from the JEE Main exam will be eligible to appear in JEE Advanced.

JEE Main is a standardized examination conducted in various states of India. It is conducted at the undergraduate level to provide admission to a variety of top-tier engineering and technical institutes, either funded by the Government or privately owned.

The examination is structured in three distinct categories:

  • Paper 1, for those who wish to pursue Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology courses

  • Paper 2A, for those wishing to pursue Bachelor of Architecture or Bachelor of Planning courses

  • Paper 2B, for those seeking to pursue a Bachelor of Planning course. The exam will be held twice a year, in January and April

JEE Main Syllabus

The syllabus of JEE Main is largely based on the NCERT textbook, while the National Testing Agency (NTA) prescribes a distinct syllabus. This syllabus includes topics that are taught in Classes 11 and 12, such as Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.

The questions in JEE Main are quite simple, but it takes a lot of hard work, practice, and proper preparation. However, one of the biggest difficulties that students face is the lack of time. Therefore, the best way to ace the exam is to have good problem solving skills and time management skills. In addition, before beginning the preparation, students should have a thorough and clear knowledge of all the topics included in JEE Main syllabus.

Candidates are advised to review the syllabus prior to their examination. This will provide them with an understanding of the relevant chapters or topics to focus on, and enable them to create a suitable study plan. In order to accommodate the decision of the National Testing Agency (NTA) to reduce the number of questions in Paper 1, Part I, and Paper 2B, the National Testing Agency has decided to provide a single section of each Subject in each Paper. The total number of Questions to be attempted is 75, with Physics (25), Chemistry (25), and Mathematics (25) remaining unchanged. To ensure proper attention to the relevant chapters, students are advised to pay close attention to them in order to succeed in the examination.

JEE Main Exam Pattern

The JEE Main exam 2023 paper pattern is essential for candidates who want to prepare for JEE well. It helps in understanding the marking system, the distribution of questions, the sectional weightage, and the duration of the exam. Instead of two papers, there are three papers.

Paper 1 is for students who want to study B.E./ B.Tech courses in National Institute of Technology (NIT), IIIT, DTU and other Government Funded Training Institutes (GFTIs).

Paper 2A is for students pursuing B.Arch.

Paper 2B is for those who want to study Planning courses offered by those institutes.

By understanding the exam pattern, candidates can gain valuable insights about the entire exam structure. Hence, it is important for students to get a full understanding of the exam pattern and devise an appropriate study plan or strategy to achieve better results.

The JEE Main Paper 1 consists of Maths, Physics and Chemistry whereas Paper 2A consists of Maths and Aptitude and Drawing Tests. Whereas, Paper 2B consists of Mathematics, aptitude and Planning based questions. Candidates can try out the test in one session or both sessions.

The same as last year, the total number of questions will be 90. Candidates will have to try out 75 questions in total. The total mark allocated to each paper will be 300.

Each paper will be computer-based online whereas the paper 2A drawing section will be conducted offline in pen and paper mode. The duration of all three papers is 3 hours.

How to Prepare for JEE Main

They should know what the exam consists of, study the syllabus carefully, use the appropriate study materials, practice solving questions etc. Additionally, they should be physically and mentally ready to write the test.

In any case, here are some key tips to help each candidate improve their preparation for the exam.

JEE Main Preparation Tips

Start from scratch: Fundamentals are essential for JEE Main preparation. Always focus on structuring and comprehending the fundamentals of all subjects. When the fundamentals are solid, learning becomes easy.

Set a timetable: The preparation curriculum for JEE Main is very comprehensive. To achieve the best results, it is important to plan ahead. Break the syllabus into various parts according to the advantages. You can limit the syllabus to one chapter or one unit. Stick to the schedule and avoid distractions in the meantime.

Know syllabus and pattern: The most important factor for better preparations is to keep oneself up to date with the full syllabus and paper pattern.

Support books: NCERT textbooks are mandatory for JEE Main preparations. Therefore, solve the NCERT textbooks before proceeding to other references.

Study resources: The right study resources will help you study well.

Importance of NCERT books for JEE Main

NCERT textbooks are really important when it comes to cracking JEE Main. They help you get a good grasp on the basics of all three subjects. So, let's take a look at why NCERT curriculum is so important for cracking JEE Main 2023.

Chemistry: For JEE Main Chemistry, the NCERT Chemistry textbook is a great resource. A lot of the questions in Organic and Inorganic Chemistry are taken straight from the textbook. Make sure you study it thoroughly and get plenty of practice with exercises, question papers, and mock tests.

Maths: Math is the hardest paper in the exam, so you'll need more study material if you want to get a good grasp of the concepts. But don't worry, you can start with the Chemistry textbook first. The explanations and exercises in it will help you get better at analyzing and solving problems.

Physics: Writing a Physics paper in JEE Main Physics is a bit of a challenge, and the textbook provided by the NCERT is not very helpful in this regard. However, you can always start from the CBSE syllabus, which is also based on the syllabus of the NCERT. Make sure that you thoroughly read through the section to ponder in the textbook.
