Important Topics covered in Chapter 13 - Statistics

NCERT solutions for class 10 maths chapter 13 Statistics covers a variety of topics. It is  essential that students have a clear understanding of the fundamental concepts in order to achieve high scores in exams.

13.1 Introduction

13.2 Mean of Grouped Data

13.3 Mode of Grouped Data

13.4 Median of Grouped Data

13.1 Introduction - In this section, you will get to know about the numerical representatives of ungrouped data, also called measures of central tendency namely, mean, median, and mode. Then you will extend the study of these three measures from ungrouped data to grouped data.

You will also learn the concepts of cumulative frequency, cumulative frequency distribution, cumulative frequency curves called ogives.

13.2 Mean of Grouped Data - The formula for finding the mean of a group of data is x̄ = Σfx / Σf , where x is the mean value of the data set, f represents the mean frequency for each class, and x represents the mid- interval value for each class.

13.3 Mode of Grouped Data - A mode is a value among the observations, which occurs most often, that is, the value of observation having the maximum frequency. In addition, we talked about how to find the mode of ungrouped data. Here, we will discuss ways of obtaining a mode of grouped data.It's possible that there are multiple values with the same maximum frequency. In these cases, the data is referred to as multimodal. Although multi-modal data can also be grouped data, we will limit ourselves to single mode problems.

The formula to find the mode of the grouped data is:

                 Mode = l + [(f1-f0)/(2f1-f0-f2)]×h.

 Where, l = lower class limit of modal class, h = class size, f1 = frequency of modal class, f0 = frequency of class proceeding to modal class, f2 = frequency of class succeeding to modal class.

13.4 Median of Grouped Data - The median is a measure of central tendency which gives the value of the middle-most observation in the data. For finding the median of ungrouped data, we first arrange the data values of the observations in ascending order.

The formula to find the median of grouped data is:

            Median =  l + [(n/2−cf)/f] × h

Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1. What is the meaning of the term "Median" in class 10 chapter 13 Statistics ?

Answer 1. Median is the middle number in a list of numbers in ascending or descending order. It provides more numerical data than the average. If the list contains odd numbers, the median value is the middle value of the list, with the same values appearing above and below that number. However, if the number list contains even numbers, then the median is calculated by adding two numbers and dividing the result by two.

Question 2. Why should I practice NCERT solutions for class 10 maths chapter 13 ?

Answer 2. NCERT solutions for class 10 maths chapter 13 Statistics is an important chapter not only for the exams but also for the learning of insights which are applicable in real life situations.Through this chapter, learners will learn how to organize and analyze different types of data by organizing them in a specific or certain order. It is one of the most important skills today and can provide lifelong benefits to the students; therefore, they need to practice NCERT solutions on a regular basis.
