NCERT Solutions Class 11 Physics Chapter 2 Motion in a Straight Line - PDF Download

Class 11

Class 11 Physics NCERT Solutions Chapter 2 explains the technical measurement of various things. All the solutions for this chapter you will see in here have been written by experienced physics teachers, which is easy to understand and step-by-step approaches. Physics is the field where 2 subjects combine Science and Maths. In Chapter 2, Motion in a Straight Line, you will be solving lots of problems that require you to use both Physics and Maths combined. As a result, our team made a PDF for you that has all the solutions, so it will be easier for you to see the answers even if you are offline.

In this chapter, you will learn motion and the different kinds of motion. You will also read many more concepts like path lengths and displacement. After that, you will learn about velocity and speed and the various numericals related to them.

The chapter also discusses acceleration and how it's related to speed and velocity. We then move on to another topic kinematic equations and uniformly accelerated motion. We will also read about relative velocity and its derivations in this chapter.

  • If an object changes its position with time, it is called that the object is in motion.

  • The path of the right direction from the origin is taken as positive and to the left is taken as negative when motion is in a straight line.

  • We will read about the path of motion and displacement in this chapter.

  • After that we will read about the magnitude of the displacement.

  • This chapter contains various graphs and formulae to explain the displacement of motion.

  • We will learn different kinds of motion, like rectilinear and uniform motions.

  • Displacement divided by time intervals is called average velocity.

  • Average Speed - The total path length travelled in the total particular time interval is known as average speed.

  • The chapter explains the relationship between speed and velocity.

  • In this chapter you will get various numerical problems based on these concepts.

  • The chapter contains various examples and questions of the students to solve.

  • The chapter also focuses on instantaneous velocity and speed and their derivations through various numerical.

  • These numericals are also explained in the form of graphs.

  • You will learn about acceleration and its derivatives.

  • Solve various problems based on kinematic equations based on uniformly accelerated motion.

  • The chapter concludes by giving a brief about relative velocity and its formulae.

Introduction

Motion is the change in position of an object with respect to time. How does the position change with respect to time ? In this chapter 2, we shall learn how to describe motion. For this, we learn the concepts of velocity and acceleration. We shall confine ourselves to the study of motion of objects along in a straight line, also known as rectilinear motion.

Instantaneous Velocity and Speed

The average velocity tells us about how fast an object has been moving over a particular period of time interval but does not tell us how fast it moves at different instants of time during that interval. For calculating this, we define instantaneous velocity or simply velocity v at an instant t.

It is very difficult to show this process graphically. But if we use a numerical method to obtain the value of the velocity, the meaning of the limiting process becomes clear.

Acceleration

The average acceleration over a time interval is known as the change of velocity divided by the time interval.

Lets see what a velocity-time graph looks like for some simple cases. Velocity Time graph for motion with constant acceleration for the following cases :

 (a) An object is moving in a positive direction with a positive acceleration.

 (b) An object is moving in a positive direction with a negative acceleration.

Kinematic Equations For Uniformly Accelerated Motion

In kinematic equations for accelerated motion there are basically 3 formulas.

Benefits of Solving CBSE Class 11 Physics Chapter 2

  • When you have chosen to be non-medical, you are undoubtedly aiming to crack one of the world's toughest exams, which is the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE). Motion in a Straight Line looks like a simple topic, but this topic becomes the base for important problems that come in the JEE exam. So when you are doing this chapter, you need to put your full concentration into this chapter.

  • On the other hand, Motion in a Straight Line is one of the chapters which will also help us in our daily life. Whatever we have learned from this chapter, we can apply it in real life. This is something you can say about every chapter in Physics.

  • In addition to this, with the help of Physics, you can see or feel how the whole world works. From a small grain of sand to a massive universe and galaxies, you can find out the working principle of everything..

  • Physics helps a child increase his critical thinking and make him/her think outside the box to solve the problem.

  • Physics gives so many different opportunities to any student’s life in terms of career. There is a possibility that you may become an astronaut and go to space. You can be a scientist and discover new stars. With the study of Physics, even the sky isn't the limit!

  • However, Physics always has something new for you to discover. It is one of the few subjects of study which never gets boring.
