A cube of side 6 cm is cut into a number of cubes, each of side 2 cm.

Question:

A cube of side 6 cm is cut into a number of cubes, each of side 2 cm. The number of cubes formed is
(a) 6
(b) 9
(c) 12
(d) 27

Solution:

(d) 27

Volume of the given cube $=(6 \times 6 \times 6) \mathrm{cm}^{3}$

Volume of each small cube $=(2 \times 2 \times 2) \mathrm{cm}^{3}$

Number of cubes formed $=\frac{\text { Volume of the given cube }}{\text { Volume of each small cube }}$

$=\left(\frac{6 \times 6 \times 6}{2 \times 2 \times 2}\right)$

$=27$
