What are fossils? What do they tell us about the process of evolution?

Fossils are remains or impressions of the hard parts of the extinct organism preserved in the sedimentary rock or other media. They tell us about the development of the structures from simple structured to complex structured organisms. They tell us about the phases of evolutions through which they must have undergone in order to sustain themselves in the competetive environment ,fossils provide evidences of evolution by revealing the charachteristics of the past organism and the changes that have occured in them to give rise to the present organism.
