What each Part 1 chapter asks of you
- Coordinates (Ch 1): place and read points precisely; later chapters assume this.
- Linear polynomials (Ch 2): turn a real pattern, like a fare that rises by a fixed amount, into an expression and a straight-line graph.
- Numbers (Ch 3): follow the story from counting to zero to irrationals, and prove that √2 cannot be a fraction.
- Identities (Ch 4): see identities as areas of squares and rectangles, then use them for fast calculation.
- Circles (Ch 5): the title is playful, but the content is circle theorems: chords, arcs and cyclic figures.

What each Part 2 chapter asks of you
- Propositions (Ch 9): judge whether a statement and its converse are true, and knock down false claims with one counterexample.
- Data (Ch 10): question numbers before trusting them; for instance, two class averages can't simply be averaged when class sizes differ.
- Algorithms (Ch 11): write instructions exact enough for a computer, a first for Class 9 Maths.
- Quadrilaterals (Ch 12): prove, using congruent triangles, why parallelograms and their special cases behave as they do.
- Two variables (Ch 13): show that all solutions of an equation such as 3x + y = 9 lie on one straight line.
- Surface area and volume (Ch 14): derive, rather than memorise, the formulas for seven solids, with Archimedes' sphere results as the highlight.
