NCERT Solutions for Class 12 Physics Chapter 5 - Magnetism and Matter - PDF Download
JEE Mains & AdvancedChapter 5 Magnetism and Matter NCERT Physics Class 12 can be easily gained with important questions that come in the board examination every year with a brief explanation. With the help of solutions for Class 12 Physics Chapter 5 Magnetism and Matter, you will easily understand the theoretical portion and can attempt all questions of this chapter in the exams including numerical calculations.
The magnetism of matter is the force exerted by magnets when they attract each other or repulse each other. A magnetic field is caused by the magnetic moments and the electric currents of some particles.

Bar Magnet
A bar magnet is a rectangular piece of an object which is made up of iron, steel or any other ferromagnetic substance or ferromagnetic composite which has permanent magnetic properties. The magnet has two poles: a north and a south pole.
The Magnetic Field Lines
The magnetic field is an imaginary area around a magnetic material or a moving electric charge within the force of magnetism acts. Force field that is created by moving electric charges and magnetic dipoles and exerts a force on other nearby moving charges and magnetic dipoles is called a magnetic field.
Bar Magnet As An Equivalent Solenoid
In this topic you will learn that the bar magnet can be used as a solenoid. As we know when electric current passes through an electromagnet then it will behave like a solenoid, while a bar magnet is any permanent magnet. When this magnet is divided into half, both parts behave like magnets with identical magnetic characteristics.
The Dipole In A Uniform Magnetic Field
As we know the pattern of iron filings in the magnetic field lines gives us an approximate idea of the magnetic field B. This is done by placing a small compass needle to determine magnetic moment m and moment of inertia I and allowing it to oscillate in the magnetic field.
The Electrostatic Analog
The magnetic field due to a bar magnet at a large distance is analogous to that of an electric dipole created in an electric field.
Magnetism And Gauss’s Law
Gauss's Law in Magnetism is related to a net magnetic flux of all closed areas that will be equal to Zero
Magnetisation And Magnetic Intensity
The magnetic intensity is defined as the force that the magnet pole experiences in a magnetic field where the intensity of magnetisation changes the magnetic moment of a magnet per unit volume.
Magnetic Properties of Materials
Magnetic materials are basically classified into three categories, based on their behaviour of materials in the magnetic field.
Following are the 3 types of materials
1. Diamagnetic
2. Paramagnetic
3. Ferromagnetic
Diamagnetism
Diamagnetic materials are those materials that are freely magnetized when we place that material in a magnetic field. However, the magnetization occurs in the direction opposite to that of the magnetic field.
Paramagnetic
Paramagnetic materials are those which get weakly magnetised when we placed these materials in an external magnetic field. They have a tendency to move from a region of weak magnetic field to strong magnetic field, i.e., they get weakly attracted to a magnet.
Ferromagnetic
