So, $17^{2}=a^{2}+b^{2}$ [by Pythagoras theorem]

$=8^{2}+15^{2} \quad\left[\because 17^{2}=8^{2}+15^{2}\right]$
Hence, $a=8$ and $b=15$.
As, hypotenuse of right angled triangle is 17 cm.
