Topics Covered in Exercise 13.1 Class 10 Mathematics Questions

Ex 13.1 covers questions associated with the topic mean of grouped data which is the essential part of this exercise. You can check the detailed explanation of this topic given below.

1.

Mean of Grouped Data

  1. Mean of Grouped Data - The Mean (average) of observations is the sum of the values of all the observations divided by the total number of observations.

                       Mean = sum of observation/total number of observations

                      Mean = Σfx / Σf

Where,  Σfx is sum of the value of all the observation and Σf is total number of observations

Class mark = upper class limit + lower class limit/2

There are three methods to find mean of grouped data

  1. Direct Method - In this method, we use a middle point that represents the entire class. It is called a class mark. It is the average of the upper and lower limits.

         Class mark = upper class limit + lower class limit/2

                              x̄ = Σfx / Σf

  1. Assumed Mean Method - If we need to figure out the large numbers, then we can apply this method to simplify the calculation. In this way, we can take one of ‘x’ as the assumed mean and take it as ‘a’. Then, we can find the deviation which is equal to the difference of the assumed mean and each of the x. The rest of the steps are the same as in the direct method.

                            x̄ = a + Σfd / Σf

  1. Step Deviation Method - In this method, we divide the values of d with a number "h" to make it simpler to calculate.

                                 x̄ = a + (Σfu / Σf)h
