Topics Covered in Exercise 8.1 Class 11 Mathematics Questions
Ex 8.1 class 11 maths chapter 8 NCERT solutions basically, is based on sequences and series. eSaral’s subject experts have discussed these topics precisely and clearly to solve questions with ease.
1.
Sequences
2.
Series

Sequences
The terms of a sequence by a_{1} , a_{2} , a_{3} , …, a_{n} , …, etc., the subscripts denote the position of the term. The nth term is the number at the nth position of the sequence and is denoted by a_{n}. The nth term is also called the general term of the sequence.
A sequence containing a finite number of terms is called a finite sequence. A sequence is called infinite, if it is not a finite sequence.
The nth term of even natural numbers, sequence can be written as a_{n} = 2n, where n is a natural number. Similarly, in the sequence of odd natural numbers 1,3,5, …, the nth term is given by the formula, a_{n} = 2n – 1, where n is a natural number.
In some cases, an arrangement of numbers such as 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8,.. has no visible pattern, but the sequence is generated by the recurrence relation given by
a_{1} = a_{2 }= 1
a_{3 }= a_{1} + a_{2}
a_{n} = a_{n} _{– 2} + a_{n – 1}, n > 2
This sequence is called the Fibonacci sequence.

Series
Let a_{1} , a_{2} , a_{3} , ... be the sequence, then the sum expressed as a_{1} + a_{2} + a_{3} + ... is called series. A series is called a finite series if it has got finite number of terms.
Thus, the series a_{1}+ a_{2 }+ a_{3} + ... + a_{n} is abbreviated as $\sum_{k=1}^n a_k$
