Properties of Square Numbers

2.

Some More Interesting Patterns

  • Adding triangular numbers

  • Numbers between square numbers

  • Adding odd numbers

  • A sum of consecutive natural numbers

  • Product of two consecutive even or odd natural numbers

  • Some more patterns in square numbers

  1. Properties of Square Numbers

  • You can see that the square numbers end with 0, 1, 4, 5, 6 or 9 only. None of the square numbers ends with 2, 3, 7 or 8.

  • Any number that has 1 or 9 in its one’s place will always have a square ending with 1.

  • Any number that has 4 or 6 in its unit’s place, its square will always end with 6.

  • Any number that has zero as its unit place, the square of that number will always have an even number of zeros at the end.

      2.  Some More Interesting Patterns

  • Adding triangular numbers - If the dotted pattern can be arranged in a triangular shape, then the numbers are referred to as triangular numbers. If we add two consecutive triangular numbers, we get a square number.

  • Numbers between square numbers - If we have two consecutive numbers n and n + 1, then there are (2n) non perfect square numbers between their square numbers.

  • Adding odd numbers - The sum of the first n natural odd numbers is n2.

Any square number must be the sum of consecutive odd numbers starting from 1. if any natural number which is not a sum of successive odd natural numbers starting with 1, then it will not be a perfect square.

  • A sum of consecutive natural numbers - Every square number is the summation of two consecutive positive natural numbers. For example, if you are finding the square of n to identify two consecutive natural numbers, you can utilize the formula:

                        First number = n2-1/2

                        Second number = n2+1/2

  • Product of two consecutive even or odd natural numbers - If we have two consecutive even or odd numbers (a+1) and a -1, the product will be (a2-1).

  • Some more patterns in square numbers - This section will teach more patterns in square numbers.
