Every year, thousands of students leave their homes and travel to Kota β some from MP, some from Rajasthan, some from UP, some from Jharkhand β carrying one dream: IIT. But Kota is not a magic city. The coaching institute you choose, the faculty you learn from, and the mentorship you receive will determine everything.
This article is a direct account of what happens inside eSaral Gurukul, Kota, based on conversations with students who have studied there for 6 months to a full year. We cover faculty, mentorship, the unique Shaktiman Card system, test analysis, study material, and honest student results.
eSaral's faculty come from IIT Bombay. They have coached students who went on to achieve AIR 5. And they now teach every student at the Gurukul β not just the toppers. Here is the full picture. real JEE Co
Kota has a reputation β both inspiring and, at times, frightening. The real atmosphere in Kota is different from what social media portrays. Students who have spent months there report that the city is safe, study-focused, and surprisingly motivating.
Walk into any tea shop, hostel common room, or library in Kota and the dominant conversation is not about movies or social media. It is about teachers, question papers, and revision strategies. Even an average student who arrives with modest preparation absorbs this environment and rises.

π‘ Expert Tip β NK Gupta, Director, eSaral Gurukul: "The biggest mistake students make in Kota is treating it like a classroom city. Kota works when you internalise it as a competitive preparation environment. When the person next to you in the canteen is discussing Electrochemistry at 9 PM, you realise you should be doing the same."
The single most meaningful difference between eSaral Gurukul and other institutes in Kota is not just the faculty. It is the attendance. Most Kota institutes see their classrooms thin out after the first month. eSaral Gurukul maintains 70β80% attendance right through to the final stretch β because mentors ensure students show up every day.

The standard model at most Kota institutes is a tiered batch system. Score high in the entrance test β get placed in the top batch β get the best teacher. Score average β get an average teacher. eSaral Gurukul broke this model.
Every student β whether they scored 50 or 280 out of 300 β gets taught by the same IIT Bombay faculty who previously taught only top-batch students at Kota's leading institutes.

Why Does Mathematics Determine Your JEE Advanced Rank?
Chemistry gets you selected. Physics takes you to AIR 1000β2000. But if you want AIR under 500, that road runs through Mathematics. In JEE Main papers over the past five years, a score of 50β55 in Maths corresponds to a 99.99th percentile in many shifts β meaning most students score below half marks. A strong Maths teacher changes everything.
Students at eSaral Gurukul report that their fear of Maths β present since Class 10 β disappears within weeks. The reason: faculty never assume prior knowledge. Every topic starts from its definition and builds up to the JEE Advanced level organically.
π‘ Expert Tip β Saransh Gupta, IIT Bombay AIR-41: "Physics and Mathematics are so deeply coupled that in JEE Advanced, you often cannot tell which subject you are solving. Weak Maths = weak Physics in Advanced. Build Maths first."

Mentorship at eSaral Gurukul is not a once-a-month counselling session. It is active, daily, and personal β operating across three critical dimensions: distraction control, preparation strategy, and discipline.
Why Do Most JEE Students Fail Despite Watching Good Lectures?
Over 90% of self-studying students never consistently solve questions. They watch theory from multiple sources, collect notes, and convince themselves they are preparing. But JEE Advanced does not ask you for a viva. It gives you 3 hours and 54 problems. If you have not solved thousands of questions under timed pressure, no amount of theory helps. Mentors at eSaral Gurukul exist to prevent this exact failure mode.
1
Distraction Control
Mentors identify phone usage patterns, social media habits, and time-wasting behaviours through the post-test analysis form. Students who report 3+ wasted hours daily get a structured detox plan β typically a 7-day phone-lock period that breaks the habit without permanent restriction.
2
Preparation Strategy
Mentors review each student's chapter-wise Shaktiman Card weekly. If a student has not completed CPP, modules, or PYQs for a chapter, the mentor identifies why β is it time management, concept gaps, or avoidance? β and rebuilds the plan accordingly.
3
Discipline and Attendance
If a student misses class, a call comes immediately. If the call goes unanswered, the mentor physically visits the student's room. One student recounted being found asleep after missing a class β the mentor arrived, sat down, and simply asked: "Beta, class mein kyun nahi aaye?" No anger. Just care.
4
Emotional Support
JEE preparation is emotionally gruelling. Mentors function like an elder sibling β available for academic concerns and personal struggles alike. Students frequently describe their mentor as "the big brother I never had." This relationship is central to sustained motivation across a full year.
"When I first came to eSaral Gurukul, I was completely hopeless. I had no idea how to even begin. My mentor showed me the path β step by step. They are like elder brothers. They guide you academically, but also emotionally. And yes, they scold too when you deserve it. That scolding comes from genuine care."

The Shaktiman Card is eSaral Gurukul's most distinctive system. Every student receives one card per chapter, and it tracks every layer of preparation in sequence. Nothing is left to self-report β mentors verify and sign each section.

The result of this system: students who previously never attempted tests consistently complete every layer of preparation because it is tracked, checked, and signed. The 99% problem β most students never give tests β is solved structurally.

JEE Advanced preparation, when broken down correctly, is not mysterious. It is a process. eSaral Gurukul teaches and enforces this process for every chapter, every subject, every student.
- Concept Learning β Faculty teach from scratch, building intuition before formula.
- Formula Memorisation β CPP sheets reinforce formula recall with immediate application questions.
- Easy Practice (Exercise 1) β Baseline confidence. Build fluency with standard question types.
- Intermediate Practice (Exercise 1A) β Slightly harder. Forces students to combine two or three concepts.
- Hard Practice (Exercise 2) β Near JEE Advanced difficulty. Many students find this challenging at first.
- Super Hard Practice (Exercise 2A) β Above JEE Advanced level. After solving 2A, actual PYQs feel comparatively manageable.
- PYQ Solving + Test + Analysis β Chapter-wise tests in JEE Main and Advanced formats, followed by structured post-test analysis identifying: correct answers, incorrect answers, silly mistakes, calculation errors, and strategy gaps.
π‘ Expert Tip β Saransh Gupta, IIT Bombay AIR-41: "If your Exercise 2A feels like eating bitter neem, that means it is working. JEE Advanced ki taiyari mein comfort zone ka koi kaam nahi. Every topper who achieved AIR under 2000 ran test analysis religiously. Every single one. If you do not analyse your mistakes, you will repeat them β just like walking into the same pothole every day."

How Is Homework Assigned and Checked?
In every class, after each topic is taught, the faculty mark out the corresponding questions in the module and CPP, topic by topic. Homework is not a blanket "do this chapter." It is precise: these specific questions, today. By the time a chapter ends, the homework, module, and PYQs are also completed in parallel.
Homework checking happens every Sunday in a structured 1-hour session where all subject copies are reviewed. But unannounced random checks also happen mid-week. Students report that the possibility of surprise checks keeps them consistently current with their work.
The Four-Exercise Difficulty Ladder
| Exercise |
Difficulty Feel |
Benchmark |
| Exercise 1 |
"Like eating cake" β smooth and confidence-building |
NCERT / JEE Main easy tier |
| Exercise 1A |
"Like eating dal" β necessary but effortful |
JEE Main moderate |
| Exercise 2 |
"Like bitter methi" β challenging, needs real effort |
JEE Advanced standard |
| Exercise 2A |
"Like karela" β very hard; harder than most PYQs |
Above JEE Advanced; 50% solve rate is exceptional |
Students who regularly attempt Exercise 2A find that JEE Advanced PYQs feel easier by comparison. This is the deliberate design: train harder than the exam so the exam feels familiar.

Motivational stories at coaching institutes are easy to fabricate. The ones below are reported directly from students currently enrolled at eSaral Gurukul Kota.
"Majboori mein shuru kiya tha β ab maza aa raha hai. I started because I felt I had no other option. Now, I genuinely enjoy sitting down to solve problems. My confidence has completely changed."
β Student from Alwar, Rajasthan Β· Currently enrolled, Class 12 batch
"A student named Apoorv came to eSaral Gurukul with 39 percentile. Two months later, after following the process, he reached 99 percentile. And Sanjay β who used to work 12 hours a day on the road β studied 6 to 7 hours every day, consistently, for a full year. He is now an IITian."
β NK Gupta, Director, eSaral Gurukul
In eSaral's 2025 JEE batch, students who completed all four exercise tiers and ran post-test analysis after every chapter-wise test showed the greatest improvement in JEE Main percentile β averaging 15+ percentile points of improvement over six months.
There is also an important caveat that eSaral Gurukul itself communicates clearly: come only if you are sincere. The system is designed for students who are willing to be accountable. If you want to sit in Kota and coast, this is not the place. If you want to be pushed, guided, and held to account every day, this is exactly where you should be.
The Five Subjects of IIT JEE
At eSaral Gurukul, the philosophy is that IIT JEE does not have three subjects β it has five: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Attitude, and Consistency. Faculty and mentors work on all five, not just the syllabus.
