Why RE-NEET 2026 Turned Out Tougher Than Expected 

RE-NEET 2026, held on 21 June, was reported as more difficult than the original NEET 2026 paper across all three subjects.

• Biology was lengthy, with matching-list and multiple-correct-answer type questions. The 90 Biology questions, which should typically take 35–40 minutes, took noticeably longer this time.
• Chemistry was described as very tough and very lengthy, which disrupted overall time calculation for many students.
• Physics came in at a tougher level than even the 2025 NEET paper.
• Several questions across the paper were closer to JEE Main difficulty than typical NEET difficulty.
• Checking and verification requirements for students added to the time pressure.

The exam slot was officially 3 hours and 15 minutes, but once OMR filling and checking are accounted for, students effectively had close to 3 hours to attempt 180 questions at this difficulty level — a combination many found genuinely tough to manage.

The government has announced that the next NEET exam will be conducted in CBT (Computer-Based Test) mode. This is a meaningful shift for NEET aspirants used to the pen-and-paper OMR format.

For context: JEE Main, which around 15 lakh students currently take in CBT mode, runs across roughly 10 shifts.
