How eSaral Calculated the Difficulty and Cutoff

The cutoff and difficulty rating were not guessed — they followed a fixed method that eSaral always uses:

1. The paper was broken down from the student's point of view: how much time it would genuinely take to score a decent score — defined as Biology above 330, and Chemistry and Physics both above 120-130.
2. Individual teachers solved the full paper and timed themselves, with a few extra minutes added on top, since a paper naturally takes longer for a student than for a teacher.
3. As soon as the exam ended, students who had scored extremely well in the May 3 attempt (670, 690, 710 range) were contacted directly to compare their new scores against their old ones.

This three-step method — teacher timing, student feedback, and score comparison — formed the base for every subject-wise rating below.

NEET Biology Analysis: Easier Than the May 3 Exam

Biology could comfortably be solved in 30-35 minutes, including OMR filling time. This was genuinely easier than the May 3 paper.

The difference came down to question style, not just difficulty:

• The May 3 paper had several assertion-reason questions and longer, multi-statement questions.
• This paper had a higher share of single-correct questions and more direct numericals, rather than deep conceptual numericals.

Because of this shorter language and fewer multi-statement questions, students saved around four to five minutes in Biology alone. Many eSaral students reported scoring 350, and a few even 360 out of 360, in Biology this time.

NEET Chemistry Analysis: One of the Toughest Papers Ever

The mood changed the moment students opened the Chemistry section. In most NEET papers, a large share of Organic and Inorganic Chemistry questions are direct, single-NCERT-concept questions. This time, that kind of question was almost absent — only a couple of straightforward Inorganic Chemistry questions matched that pattern. Everything else demanded real time.

Based on having solved NEET Chemistry papers for years, including AIIMS papers, this was rated as one of the toughest Chemistry papers ever set — well above the 2025 difficulty level. Chemistry should ideally have taken 45-50 minutes to solve, but no student reported finishing it in less than 1 hour 10 minutes of solving plus 10 minutes of OMR filling — roughly 70-80 minutes total — and questions were still left unattempted even after that.

The 15 extra minutes given in this exam, which were expected to push the cutoff higher, were effectively cancelled out by how long Chemistry took.

NEET Physics Analysis: Tougher Than It Looked

Several teachers rated Physics as easier than the 2025 level. The eSaral faculty take a different view: Physics itself was actually tougher than 2025 when judged purely on question level — the real issue was time, not difficulty.

Because Chemistry consumed so much time, students had very little time left for Physics by the time they reached it. One example: a student who scored 669 in the May 3 exam scored only 590 this time. Four Physics questions that this student could easily have solved were never even reached, simply because time ran out — lost entirely to Chemistry.

If Physics difficulty in 2025 is rated a 10, this paper's Physics could be rated around 9 to 9.5 — but with no time left to use on it after Chemistry, that slightly lower difficulty made no real difference to the final score.

This also explains why even students who normally make zero silly mistakes ended up with silly mistakes in this attempt — a direct result of rushing through Physics after Chemistry ate up the clock.

How Much Did Scores Drop Compared to the May 3 Exam?

Students who scored 660-670 marks on May 3 are now reporting scores of 590, 600, or 610 in this re-exam — an average drop of 60-70 marks.

What makes this more significant is that students had 30 extra days of preparation between the two attempts, yet scores still dropped. The combination of a genuinely tougher Chemistry section and time pressure carried over into Physics is the main reason behind this fall.

Because the exam did have 15 extra minutes overall, this paper is still expected to be rated slightly higher than the 2025 paper in terms of marks, even though it is being considered one of the toughest papers in recent years.

NEET 2026 Re-Exam Expected Cutoff

Students scoring 570, 580, or 600 marks are expected to get a strong rank and a good chance at a college of their choice.
