Solution:
Required number $=\frac{1}{2}\left(\frac{1}{4}+\frac{1}{3}\right)$
$=\frac{1}{2}\left(\frac{3+4}{12}\right)$
$=\left(\frac{1}{2} \times \frac{7}{12}\right)$
$=\frac{7}{24}$
